La Maddalena is an extraordinary archipelago consisting of 7 islands, located in the North-East of Sardinia. It is a National Park since 1996. Considered one of the most amazing places in Italy, La Maddalena is characterized by its unique landscapes full of Mediterranean culture and nature. The unique combination of white beaches, rocks and blue water makes this place one of the most attractive points in Europe, receiving thousands of visitors every year. This land is also known for being the final resting place of the "Hero of Two Worlds", Giuseppe Garibaldi, who built at Caprera the famous "White House". It is now a Museum and is open to the public and where you can visit the tomb and his final resting place. The history of the archipelago, because of its strategic location, is linked to the military presence that has highly structured territory with interesting examples of military architecture. You can walk on nature trails and find ancient fortifications and military installations incredibly inserted into the landscape. The historic center of La Maddalena is very quaint and hosts numerous alleys and palaces in Genoese style dating back to the 19th century, when the island hosted an important granite quarry, now disused but can still be visited. La Maddalena lives a unique lifestyle, it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the italian "sweet lifestyle". Being a small place, in La Maddalena it is easy to get around and enjoy its beauty. Sustainability and eco-responsability start by understanding the territory itself. At GAIA we present this opportunity by several activities related directly to La Maddalena’s territory. The diversity of natural highlights makes of La Maddalena a perfect place to develop these other sports and ecological activities, such as Sailing, Kayaking, Biking, Trekking, Climbing, Diving, Snorkeling, Whale watching, Horseback riding, Water-skiing and much more.

*It’s highly recommended using the transportation service offered by GAIA Institute that includes pick-up from the airport as well as the ferry up to La Maddalena. Unfortunately public bus transportation systems are not always the best regarding schedules. Otherwise you should take the bus (Turmo Travel or Arst) that goes to Palau’s port and then purchase the ferry ticket to La Maddalena (Enermar, Saremar, Delcomar, NGI). (Ferry tickets are sell at Palau´s Stazione Marittima office). This trip length is around 20 minutes.
